Explore the exciting world of acrylic painting in this class designed with beginners in mind! Charlene will guide the group step by step through the process of creating a beautiful bird painting, while introducing basic concepts of using a paintbrush, light and shadow, color, and much more!

All materials are included in the tuition fee

Ceramics Studios: To ensure the appropriate firing temperatures and to protect the kilns, all clay must be purchased through the Paramount Center for the Arts, no outside clay bodies or glazes should be introduced to the Studios. If you have any questions about clay and glazes, please connect with our Ceramics Technician.

Supplies and Materials: For the safety and wellbeing of all visitors to the Paramount, we ask that materials that are used in the studios are the recommended brands and grade, as described in the materials list, or are approved by Paramount Staff.

Experience Level: Drawing experience suggested but not required. This workshop is appropriate for beginning to intermediate artists.

Art teachers tell you to sketch every day to improve your drawing, but what if your daily sketches and even doodling can help you improve your understanding of 3-D form and spatial perspective? Take this workshop and find out how! You’ll learn freehand drafting like Leonardo DaVinci used to create his inventions, and then apply your skills drawing everyday objects or constructions from your imagination.

Skills you’ll learn include:

• How to turn a square into a perfect circle and a 3D cube into a sphere

• How to draw an accurate ellipse

• 3D analysis and cross sections• Linear perspective and shadow projection

• Freehand architectural drawing. If the weather permits, we’ll go outside and apply our skills to   drawing buildings and the environment.

MATERIALS, please bring the following materials to class:

• Sketching Notebook, 8”x10” or larger with a nice sturdy backing

• Graphite Drawing pencil (2H to HB) and pencil sharpener

•Optional: Sanguine (brick -colored) drawing pencil, or other natural colors

•Eraser • Black Fine tip pen such as a mechanical/technical pen or micron pen

Optional:

Different color micron pens such as grays, tans, or browns to get different effects with your sketching

• If possible, pastel pencils in white and flesh to create highlights and planes.

•A drawing board to clip your sketch book to, if you like

•A wooden skewer, or knitting needle, or a very fine long brush handle, or similar to use as a comparative measuring tool.

Monday December 7, 6-9pm (one session total)

Ages 18+ (Please contact us at dsegerstrom@paramountarts.org if you have a younger student interested in participating) 

Create a handstitched time capsule with a story ornament. Each includes a back pocket where loved ones can tuck in notes with their thoughts on the year. Choose a simple design of your choice using handmade or commercially felted wool that can be accented with embroidery stitches and beading for color and texture.

This class focuses on fiber arts, including hand-piecing, stitching and beading, along with the option of writing. We’ll also cover:

· Cutting simple shapes for a scene or image.

· Discuss different types of felt.

· Cover some typical types of thread and needles.

· Demonstrations of basic embroidery stitches.

· Making templates if needed.

· Adding beads as final embellishments.

· Stitching a pocket and assembling all the pieces.

Instructor: Lisa Meyers McClintick makes jewelry, beads, embroiders, and practices wet and needle felting when she needs a more tactile creative endeavor than writing, photography and drawing.

Materials to create one ornament are included in the cost of the tuition fee.

Explore the exciting world of traditional Swedish Dalmaning with professional artist and Vesterheim Gold Medalist Patti Goke!

Dalmaning is a decorative style of painting utilizing beautiful elements of Swedish folk art. Patti will walk the class through holding your brush and techniques on successfully creating a stunning designs, with a variety of brush strokes!

Please note that designs may vary from photograph.
