CC9: Morning Clay Camp (ages 11-14)

Join us for the AMAZING world of Clay Camp!
If you love being creative & getting messy, this camp is totally for you! At Clay Camp, you’ll kick things off by creating awesome projects like pinch pots, coil pots, and even your own sculptures—all by hand! But wait… there’s more!
Try the Pottery Wheel!Ever wanted to spin clay on a real pottery wheel? You’ll get to learn how to center your clay and shape it into shapes like bowls and cylinders!
Glaze Time = Color Explosion!After your projects are created, you’ll bring them to life with bright, bold, colorful glazes that make your creations totally YOUR OWN. Learn ceramic terms, try new techniques, and make awesome art you’ll be proud to show off!
Important: Your projects will need to be fired in our kilns (they get SUPER hot, over 1,800 degrees!). This process takes about 3–4 weeks after camp ends. We’ll email you when your artwork is ready to pick up!

Class Ages: Because projects are designed with the specific age groups identified, students must be the minimum age listed on the start date of camp.
Transportation: Families are responsible for arranging transportation of their students. Students should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the start of classes and picked-up no later than 15 minutes after camps end. Safety is our top priority, please ensure that Camp Staff are present before leaving your student-
Art Show: Each week will culminate with an Art Show the final 20 minutes of camp, where we welcome friends and family to celebrate the work of students! Work that is ready to go home may be collected upon departure. Work that needs to be fired in a kiln will remain on site. The Paramount will send an email once the work is ready for pick-up (typically three or four weeks after the final day of camp)
Clothing: Please send your child in clothes that can get messy! Closed toed shoes (no sandals) help keep feet protected while in studio.
Lunch: If your student is registered for both morning and afternoon camps in a week, they are welcome to remain on site and eat lunch with our staff! Students should bring their own bag lunch; students will not be able to leave the facility to purchase lunch off site or have access to vending machines. Due to allergy concerns, we ask that no tree nut or peanut products be sent.
Electronics: We ask that devices, including phones or tablets, be turned to silent mode during camps. Ringtones and alerts can be distracting in the creative environment. The Paramount is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen devices.

VA9: Totally Terrific 2D! (ages 7-10)

Creativity and technique are the focus in this awesome camp all about doodles, drawings, paintings and other two-dimensional art! You will explore amazing ways to make your artwork stand out using color, shapes, line and other elements to help make your creations as unique as you!
Throughout camp, we’ll experiment to find the perfect combination and develop you own style that lets your creativity shine! You’ll make artwork that you can be excited to frame and show off in your space or share with friends and family . and learn techniques that you can use for your future creations at home! Join us for a camp filled with artistic exploration, fun, and self-expression! Let’s create some amazing artwork together!

VA10: Creative Threads Camp: A Fabric Adventure! (ages 11-14)

Awesome adventures in the world of fabrics and fiber arts await!
Learn how colorful dyes will transform fabric into vibrant works of art, explore introductory hand stitches, and how to modify fabrics to create amazing textures and effects. We will discover how to shape wool into fun and unique forms that will look great in your space! The other awesome element- these are all skills and techniques that you can take with you out of the classroom for future fiber art adventures!
This camp is all about unleashing your creativity and having fun with fabric. Come join us for a week of stitching, dyeing, and making beautiful projects you’ll be proud to show off!
*Please note that this camp will use embroidery needles in the fiber art projects, as well as some animal fibers (such as wool). Please let us know of any allergy concerns.

Joy of Woodworking: An Introduction!

Explore the art of woodworking in this class perfect for the beginner or those looking for a refresher!
In this class with John Voigt and Mark Voigt, you will learn how to safely use essential equipment including the Jointer, Table Saw, Band Saw, Planer, Router and various sanders.
While learning to safely operate equipment you will develop and fine-tune skills with these basic woodworking machines.
Class will also include discussion on wood selection and finishing, as part of your hands on woodworking experience.

Carving & Painting a Whimsical House
with Bob Lawrence
Experience Required: Some prior experience recommended
Saturday September 12, 9am-4pm (One Session)
Ages 18+ (Please contact us at dsegerstrom@paramountarts.org if you have a younger student interested in participating)
Explore the exciting world of carving a fun and whimsical house in this one day workshop!
Wood artist Bob Lawrence's demonstrations will concentrate on carving elements of successfully creating home features such as siding, shingles, and windows. Bob will have several patterns of houses for students to choose.
Students will receive personal instruction and help at their level of carving along with demonstrations throughout the day for successful and safe carving.
Beginner with some experience to advanced.
One blank and finishing supplies will be furnished.

Handbuilding Cohort
with Kevin Eldstrom, Linda Schmidt, & Laurie Yourk
Experience Level: Intermediate and advanced level Handbuilding techniques discussed in class, prior experience is required.
Every Other Tuesday, September 15-December 22, 6-8:30pm (9 sessions total)

Continue your exploration of handbuilding with clay in this exciting dive into more advanced techniques and (safe!) use of equipment in the Studio, presented by a passionate group of instructors!
Instructors will each take a section of the class to explore their areas of interest and expertise; from extruding, surface techniques, design, and decorating your project- this class will explore fun and unique methods of working with clay!
